The World Water Council was established to promote awareness of critical water issues at all levels of decision making, to facilitate efficient conservation, protection, development, planning, management, and use of water in all its dimensions on an environmentally sustainable basis for the benefit of all life on the earth.


World Water Day was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1993. Every March 22 is to be declared World Day for Water.
